The 2027 dates at a glance
Station times are Swiss Ephemeris values truncated to the minute. The sign is the tropical longitude at that instant.

Daylight saving time in the United States runs from 14 March to 7 November 2027, which is why the February and March rows use standard time and the others use daylight time. In the United Kingdom clocks move to summer time on 28 March and back on 31 October, so 28 October is still on summer time.
What retrograde means
A retrograde planet appears to move backward against the stars when seen from Earth. It is an optical effect that comes from the changing positions of Earth and the planet as they orbit the Sun. Mercury completes a cycle of this kind about every 116 days, which is why it happens three or four times a year.
In astrology, Mercury stands for communication, travel, contracts, devices and short journeys, so a retrograde is read as a time to review and double check rather than to launch something new. There is no scientific evidence that the apparent motion of a planet affects events on Earth, and this page treats the idea as a tradition for reflection and planning, not as a forecast.
The shadow periods
Astrologers add a shadow period on each side. The pre-shadow starts when Mercury first passes the degree where it will later station direct. The post-shadow ends when Mercury moves forward again past the degree where it stationed retrograde. These are conventions of astrology and not astronomical events, but they explain why the mood of a retrograde is said to begin earlier and fade later than the dates of the station itself.
The three periods in turn
9 February to 3 March, in Pisces and Aquarius. This period moves through a water sign into an air sign. The theme is a review of ideas and plans that have felt unclear. Pisces and Aquarius Sun signs have Mercury retrograde in their own sign for part of the period.
10 June to 4 July, in Cancer and Gemini. Mercury is retrograde in Cancer and returns to Gemini, a sign it rules. Travel plans and messages are the usual focus in this window, and Cancer and Gemini Sun signs are most in focus.
7 October to 28 October, in Scorpio and Libra. This is the one that overlaps with Scorpio season, which begins around 23 October each year. The retrograde starts in Scorpio, a sign about trust and shared resources, and ends in Libra, which is about agreements. Scorpio and Libra Sun signs are most in focus.
Practical habits many people use
- Back up devices and documents before the retrograde begins.
- Read contracts and messages twice before sending or signing.
- Leave extra time for travel connections.
- Finish and revise existing projects, and postpone large new launches where you can.
- Reconnect with people from the past, which is a common theme of the period.
None of these needs a belief in astrology to be useful. Double checking a contract or backing up a laptop is sensible in any month.
Vedic signs
The dates above use the tropical zodiac. In Vedic astrology Mercury is placed in sidereal signs, which are shifted by roughly 24 degrees under the Lahiri ayanamsha, so the station of 9 February falls in a different sign in a Vedic chart. The dates and times of the stations are the same in both systems. See sidereal vs tropical.
Frequently asked questions

How long does each retrograde last? About three weeks. The 2027 periods last 22, 24 and 21 days.
