What is Manglik Dosha?

Manglik Dosha, or Mangal Dosha, is a condition counted from Mars in certain houses from Lagna, Moon, or Venus.

Mars counted from three points

Mangal Dosha is a classical matchmaking consideration. Mars is checked in the first, fourth, seventh, eighth, and twelfth houses, counted from the Lagna, from the Moon, and from Venus. A chart may be described as Manglik from one, two, or all three of those counts.

Birth time is required for the Lagna count. Inner Light reports the three whole-sign Mars counts from each person’s D1 chart when time is known.

How to hold the result

Traditional texts discuss cancellation, matching two Manglik charts, and the rest of Mars in the chart. The presence of the dosha is a starting observation, not a verdict on a relationship. Read it alongside Ashta Koota, the Western synastry aspects, and the two charts as wholes.

Common questions

Does Manglik Dosha mean a marriage will fail?
No. It is a house-count involving Mars, used in matchmaking literature. Inner Light reports the counts returned by the calculation. It does not turn those counts into a prediction.
