What is Yoga in Panchang?

Nitya Yoga is one of the five Panchang limbs: 27 named combinations from the sum of the Sun’s and Moon’s longitudes.

Twenty-seven daily names

Yoga here means nitya yoga, a Panchang limb. Add the sidereal longitudes of the Sun and Moon, divide the ecliptic into 27 equal parts of 13°20′, and name the part currently occupied. The names run from Vishkambha to Vaidhriti.

Some yogas are more supportive for beginning work, others more demanding. Those are electional conventions. The calculation is the angle.

Common questions

Is Panchang Yoga the same as a chart Yoga?
No. Chart yogas such as Gaja Kesari are planetary combinations in a birth chart. Panchang Yoga (nitya yoga) is a daily Sun–Moon angle, one of 27 names in the almanac.
